Lyrics to Evergreen
I am the oldest oak tree
I fall through autumn and I loose my leaves
intitials carved into my bark for all to see
yet through it all you have remained .. evergreen, evergreen
I've seen the seasons come and go for so long
my flesh I've carved for them I'm still holding on
they transubstantiate my blood into wine
some hate your needles but they're softer then mine
my roots dig deep into the soil
branches extend and then recoil
the fire burns and my sap boils
an acorn kiss I toss your way
the wind it dances and we sway
if only this feeling could stay
Winter comes and we have grown another year
though my branches will be bare I hold sincere
feeling of the kind we have do not appear
once in a thousand miles or anywhere but here
lightning strikes and I'm aflame
till rainfall puts me out again
this lovely dance continues on
your roots and mine are intertwined
I search this moment and I find
that when you fall I hope I'm all ready gone
I fall through autumn and I loose my leaves
intitials carved into my bark for all to see
yet through it all you have remained .. evergreen, evergreen
I've seen the seasons come and go for so long
my flesh I've carved for them I'm still holding on
they transubstantiate my blood into wine
some hate your needles but they're softer then mine
my roots dig deep into the soil
branches extend and then recoil
the fire burns and my sap boils
an acorn kiss I toss your way
the wind it dances and we sway
if only this feeling could stay
Winter comes and we have grown another year
though my branches will be bare I hold sincere
feeling of the kind we have do not appear
once in a thousand miles or anywhere but here
lightning strikes and I'm aflame
till rainfall puts me out again
this lovely dance continues on
your roots and mine are intertwined
I search this moment and I find
that when you fall I hope I'm all ready gone
