Lyrics to The World Out There
The World Out There
Matty Pop Chart
In the course of my short life, I've learned to cry,
When my heart is feeling something I don't like.
Like, when my Grandpas died, when I hear my mother sigh, when the girls don't like me back time after time.
And occasionally a scene that captures life so perfectly,
will affect me so that I'll begin to weep.
Be it a book, or a song, or a view, or a dream,
these moments are just that,
moments that will soon leave.
Cause you know that you'll feel
better when time has passed
and all the pains begin to heal,
although you seem to be stuck,
this type of sadness goes in cycles,
it's a wonder how a life goes up and down.
But then, a movie once was shown in my safe, comfortable home,
where a white man kills a black man on the curb.
I was fourteen and I cried for hours through the night,
in a frenzied, endless loop, I cried out "Why?"
Though we've known it all along,
that humanity was wrong,
that the world is shit because we made it so.
That every single day,
somebody gets raped,
somebody gets murdered,
someone starves.
Still just this one time,
for the world did I cry,
only once did I let it take over my mind.
Now I'm scared that I can not feel anything anymore, my dears, what can I do, what can be done?
Cause I've cried for myself, and for the ones I love,
but for the world out there I haven't tears enough.
So I block it out of sight, pretend everything's alright,
with this veil I keep on moving through my life.
Apparently, it seems, everyone is just like me,
too overwhelmed to really take anything in.
Yes, I'm so scared that we can not feel anything anymore, my dears,
but I'm desperate, I don't know what else to do.
Except raise our children right,
it's so hard to see what's wrong
and not let it take over your life
because the pain won't just stop.
If you start to crying,
you might just keep on crying,
cause we're in for stormy weather
and I'm not sure it's getting better
but the future is uncertain
and the door behind the curtain may not lead to brighter pastures
but to be sane, we're gonna have to hope it does.
