Lyrics to The Wreck
An uncanny shape
Run aground
Unsightly interruption
Of the shoreline
Gleaners come and go
From the mass of splintered beams
Carrying glass and copper
And slip away over the hills

The wreck shifts in the surf
Its origin and purpose obscure
Has it been here from the start?
Have I simply failed to see?

A slow guilt drips
Pooling in my stomach
Nothing so decrepit
Could be anything but
A condemnation
A bitter testament
To weightless days
Selfishly spent
Like a child I cannot be trusted
The shock of failure
Comes in an overwhelming wave
Rushing water fills my ears
Pulls my lamentations
Out to be strewn across the sea
